1.20.1 2.29.1 Scope and Usage

A domain resource is an resource that:

As an abstract resource, this resource is never created directly; instead, one of its descendent resources ( see List of Resources ) is created.

This resource extends the base resource . All of the listed Resources except Bundle , Parameters and Binary extend this resource.

DomainResource ( Resource ) A human-readable narrative that contains a summary of the resource, and may be used to represent the content of the resource to a human. The narrative need not encode all the structured data, but is required to contain sufficient detail to make it "clinically safe" for a human to just read the narrative. Resource definitions may define what content should be represented in the narrative to ensure clinical safety text : Narrative [0..1] These resources do not have an independent existence apart from the resource that contains them - they cannot be identified independently, and nor can they have their own independent transaction scope contained : Resource [0..*] May be used to represent additional information that is not part of the basic definition of the resource. In order to make the use of extensions safe and manageable, there is a strict set of governance applied to the definition and use of extensions. Though any implementer is allowed to define an extension, there is a set of requirements that SHALL be met as part of the definition of the extension extension : Extension [0..*] May be used to represent additional information that is not part of the basic definition of the resource, and that modifies the understanding of the element that contains it. Usually modifier elements provide negation or qualification. In order to make the use of extensions safe and manageable, there is a strict set of governance applied to the definition and use of extensions. Though any implementer is allowed to define an extension, there is a set of requirements that SHALL be met as part of the definition of the extension. Applications processing a resource are required to check for modifier extensions (this element modifies the meaning of other elements) modifierExtension : Extension [0..*]

1.20.4 2.29.4 Search Parameters Searching Extensions

This resource doesn't define any common Search parameters To search for extensions, define a search parameter for the extension. All other search parameters are named aliases for existing content in the resource. In some cases, though not all, the search parameter name is the same as the element that it searches, but this is not required. Searching for extensions is the same - define a name that identifies the value extension by its URL, and then searches can filter based on the value of the extension.
